In the construction industry there is an increasing demand for environmentally friendly construction materials, as cement industry is responsible for approximately 7% of the CO2 emission worldwide.Recently a great development can be observed in the production of a new type of inorganic geopolymer binder.As concrete exhibits brittle behaviour due to its low tensile strength, several composites are developed to reduce this problem and increase the flexural strength.The addition of natural or artificial fibres can change the brittle behaviour to ductile or quasi ductile with significant improvement on mechanical properties depending on the type and length of the fibre.This review summarizes some research in the topic of geopolymer composites.The main application fields of geopolymer composites are the high temperature application, repairing and strengthening buildings.To getting higher strength particles and fibres can be used to increase durability, thermal properties and shrinkage ratio of lighter geopolymer composites.This paper summarizes some research in the topic of geopolymer composites.
