摘要
Traditionally, the study of neuroanatomy is based on the internalization of 2D images from printed neuroanatomy atlases, their compilation into an understanding of the depicted anatomy in the recipients' imagination, and their correlation to the new data at hand. This practice is very time consuming and leaves ample room for misinterpretation. Due to the increase of the throughput capacity of the Internet, new online tools for neuroanatomy appeared over the years, facilitating the study and comparison of neuroanatomy. While any of the resources described here has its strengths and applications, the pinnacle of this development lies currently in the format of the 3D atlas of standardized neuroanatomy, which allows the on-screen comparison of neuroanatomical data of different individuals—or populations—within a common coordinate system. This chapter provides a brief overview of the current state of this development and its products.
