Abstract
Abstract Fer.,men.ti.ba.cil'lus. L. neut. n. fermentum a fermentation process; L. dim. n. bacillus small rod; N.L. masc. n. Fermentibacillus rod in the fermentation process. Firmicutes / Bacilli / Bacillales / Bacillaceae / Fermentibacillus Cells of Fermentibacillus polygoni are Gram‐positive, facultative anaerobic, straight or slightly curved rods with rounded ends. Facultative alkaliphilic with an optimum growth pH 9 or 10. Cells occur singly, reproduce by normal cell division, and are motile by a pair of subpolar flagella. Ellipsoidal endospores are produced at the subterminal to central position in the sporangia with unswollen endospore. Catalase and oxidase reactions are positive. Menaquinone‐7 (MK‐7) is the major isoprenoid quinone, and the cell‐wall peptidoglycan contains meso ‐DAP. The most abundant fatty acid is anteiso‐C 15:0 , followed by iso‐C 15:0. Polar lipids are consisted of phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, diphosphatidylglycerol, one unknown aminophospholipid, and one unknown glycolipid. The strain belongs to members of the class Bacilli , family Bacillaceae . The known habitat is indigo fermentation liquor (pH >10) prepared using sukumo [(composted leaves of knotweed Polygonum tinctorium )] for indigo dyeing. DNA G + C content (mol%) : 39.0–39.1 (HPLC). Type species : Fermentibacillus polygoni Hirota et al. 2016a VP .
