Cranial nerve palsies presenting to the maxillofacial surgeon – Unusual causes from below

Causes of cranial nerve palsies are varied and can include trauma, congenital disease, neoplasia and infection. They may occur in isolation or as part of multiple cranial nerve neuropathy. A diagnosis can be made on clinical features alone but usually further investigation and imaging is required to determine the specific aetiology.
