Airborne Wind Power Generation Using a Straight Wing Vertical Axis Wind Turbine

A prototype Phase 1.5 model of Airborne Wind Power Generation (AWPG) system is developed for demonstrating an innovative high altitude wind power technology. The demonstration model consists of a straight brade wind turbine, a specially designed kite to elevate the windmill to high altitude, and a generator on ground, where the rotational power of the windmill is transferred to the generator using a tether traction system. This paper presents the result of the wind tunnel test of the Phase 1.5 system model and the field test performed at Menuma Gliding Ground.
