The Human Capital of Startups: Founding Team Dynamics

Many argue that the selection of a founding team is the most important decision contributing to venture success. However, surprisingly little has been done on founding team dynamics – that is, how co-founders select each other and work with each other over time. This panel brings together leading entrepreneurship scholars to discuss recent work in this area as well as promising areas for future research. Relevant questions include: How do founding teams evolve in a young venture over time? How do founding teams form and work with each other? What are some of the most common pitfalls or pressure points for co-founders? How do environmental conditions impact founding teams? How do early founding teams transition to be top management teams? We will address these and other related questions through an interactive discussion with our panelists.
