Fabrication and processing characteristics evaluation of structured whetstone using 3D printer and PELID

In the conventional grindstone production, the bond material is mechanically stirred and molded using a mold. However, there are problems such as nonuniformity in the position of the abrasive grains due to mechanical agitation of the bond material, cost and storage place due to the use of the mold. As a production method to overcome these problems, we have devised and studied a wheel manufacturing system that combines PELID 1) and a 3D printer 2). As a part of this research, we used a conductive ABS resin and a water soluble filament as a bonding agent for the grindstone to produce a grinding stone having a structure inside. In this report, we report about trial of model construction of internal structure grinding wheel using this system. From the above results, it is possible to manufacture a composite grinding stone using conductive ABS and water soluble filament and an internal structure grinding wheel with free shape.
