Humidity-dependencies of friction characteristics of stainless steel surface treated with fine particle peening using zinc particle with varied condition

Fine particle peening (FPP) using zinc particles were conducted on stainless steel substrate to modify frictional properties by utilizing transfer of the zinc particle onto the substrate surface. Zinc-rich surface obtained by FPP were examined by ball-on-disk reciprocating friction test under varied humidity. Friction coefficient measured on the surface tended to increase under high humidity, due to aging period after preparation. Condition of zinc particle employed for FPP also affected to the tribological properties; friction coefficient of Zinc-rich surface prepared with reuse particle was more sensitively increased with an increase in the aging period and humidity.
