In this paper we discuss the impact of shallow strata velocity model accuracy and wide-azimuth vs. narrow-azimuth seismic acquisition to seismic imaging of the deep complex structures by a numerical and a physical modeling, respectively. Then a wide-azimuth and high-density 3D seismic survey that is helpful for building a more accurate velocity model and improving the target illumination was designed and carried out. The seismic images of the shallow strata and subsalt overthrust structures have been improved significantly by the new 3D seismic.
