It is a gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium with a polar flagellum. Olive knot is present worldwide on both cultivated and wild olive and is particularly severe in the Mediterranean Basin. Multiplication and dissemination of the pathogen are favored by mild temperatures and rain in spring and autumn. The disease can significantly reduce crop yield, because both fruit and oil quality are affected negatively. Disease symptoms, management methods, and a protocol for pathogen detection are included in this chapter.
