Change of the Diesel-Spray Shape Developed under a High-Density Atmosphere

Shadowgraph images of the diesel spray developed under high-density atmosphere were taken using a Rapid Compression/Expansion Machine and characteristics of spray shape were analyzed. From the experimental results under various conditions, it was shown that the penetration increases as the ambient pressure is lower and the injection pressure is higher, that the divergence angle of the spray strongly depends on the atmospheric pressure and does not change so much with the injection pressure. Also, the change of spray characteristics with the restriction of flow path width was discussed.
