The Effect of Vitamin A Depiction on the Vasa Deferentia of Young Bulls

Eighteen young Balady bulls were used to study the effect of various doses of vitamin A on the development of the vasa deferentia. There was no significant difference in the weight of the epididymis between animals receiving vitamin A at various levels and those reared on a vitamin A deficient diet. Also, no differences were observed in the epithelial structure of the vasa deferentia of the bulls receiving vitamin A at various doses and those receiving carotene in the ration. Feeding a ration deficient in vitamin A or carotene produced gross reduction in the diameter of the vasa deferentia. The most pronounced effect of vitamin A deficiency was in the corpus and cauda epididymidis; the lining cells and lumen diameter were greatly affected. The epithelium lining the transitional region between the epididymis and vas deferens, and the vas deferens and the ampulla in vitamin A deficient animals showed no alterations in structure when compared with that in animals receiving vitamin A or carotene in the ration.
