La sharka de los Prunus, una revisión

espanolEspana es uno de los principales paises productores de frutales del genero Prunus del mundo. La fuerte expansion de la sharka, una enfermedad causada por el Plum pox virus (PPV), esta suponiendo el mayor factor limitante en la produccion de estos cultivos, en los que se reduce drasticamente el rendimiento y la calidad de los frutos. Se estima que los costes asociados a la sharka en todo el mundo, desde los anos setenta, han superado los 10 billones de euros, por lo que el PPV ha sido incluido en la lista de los “top ten” de virus vegetales en terminos de importancia economica y cientifica. Se han descrito varios grupos de aislados de PPV que difieren en su agresividad, habilidad de transmision por afidos y sintomatologia. Su propagacion por afidos favorece la rapida expansion de la enfermedad, por lo que en este trabajo se realiza una revision de los principales metodos de deteccion del virus, control de la enfermedad y evaluacion de la resistencia de nuevas variedades. Por ultimo, se proponen unas consideraciones finales para facilitar el manejo de la enfermedad, tanto a corto como a largo plazo. EnglishSpain is the main Prunus fruit producing country in the world. The strong expansion of sharka, a disease caused by Plum pox virus (PPV), is the major limiting factor in the production of these crops, which drastically reduces the yield and quality of the fruits. The costs associated with sharka around the world since the 1970s have exceeded 10 billons euros, so the PPV has been included in the top ten list of plant viruses in terms of economic and scientific importance. Several groups of isolated PPV have been described that differ in their aggressiveness, aphid transmission ability and symptomatology. The propagation by aphids favors the rapid expansion of the disease, so in this work a review of the main methods of virus detection, disease control and evaluation of the resistance of new varieties is carried out. Finally, some considerations are proposed to facilitate the management of the disease, both in the short- and long-term.
