But it is difficult to identify the gas reservoir with conventional AVO methods because the porosity is less than 12% which leads to the tiny differences on elastic parameters, and the thickness of the reservoir is thin. Compared with present fluid detection techniques, there is a direct way to detect hydrocarbon with Russell fluid factor which can help to identify gas and water from tiny different AVO response, and it is an effective way to predict the gas saturation qualitatively. From the synthetic data test, it shows that the AVO curve is very close between the AVO formula proposed by Russell and Zoeppritz equation in limited angles (<30°), which indicated the fluid factor can be well fitted from the small incident angle prestack gathers with Russell formula. With feasibility study of gas detection in the tight sand reservoir of Sulige gas field, in the extent of effective reservoirs, the Russell fluid factor can represents the relative values of gas saturation. Finally the application results revealed that it is an effect way to detect gas in tight sand, showing the reliable result consistent with drilling result, it can help to utilize the subtle AVO information to identify fluid and indicate the gas saturation. The synthetic and the real data tests show that it is a reliable and feasible way to detect the fluid in tight sand with Russell fluid factor, providing a new way to predict the gas distribution in the vertical and horizontal direction.
