415 Influence of strain rate on deformation behavior in Gum Metal

Abstract
In conventional metallic materials, elastic modulus has proportional relations with strength. However, recently developed β-Ti alloy Gum Metal has low elastic modulus and high strength, and it has several additional special properties. In relation to these properties, deformation behavior of Gum Metal is considered to differ from the conventional metallic materials. In this paper, tensile tests on Gum Metal were carried out at three strain rates (ε_0=1.19×10^s^, ε_0=1.19×10^s^, ε_0=1.19×10^s^) to investigate influence of strain rate on deformation behavior. We find that influence of strain rate on deformation behavior in Gum Metal is similar to other conventional metallic materials, and it fails by ductile fracture irrespective of strain rate.
