In general, azimuth information can be retained with sectoring migration of 3D seismic data for azimuthal anisotropic research. But sectoring approach may suffer from arbitrary sector decisions, non-uniform fold and compromised azimuth, so the precision of interpretation is not enough. In recent years, OVT processing on wide azimuth and high density data is popular. The snail gathers obtained from migration data in OVT domain, which retain both offsets and azimuths information, can meet the needs of azimuth anisotropic study based on HTI anisotropy theory. Migration image are improved significantly by azimuthal anisotropy correction in fracture-developed zone. What is more, the accuracy of fracture detection is increased distinctly based on snail gathers with reasonably optimized offset range and azimuth range. In this paper, we discuss the flow and key techniques of OVT processing briefly and then give two application examples about fracture detection in Junggar basin and Tarim basin in China.
