These synthetic rocks contain aligned penny-shape fractures with 3mm diameter and 0.06mm thickness. The rock samples are cut into octagonal prisms at increments of 45° to the fracture normal. P- and S-wave velocity in different directions (0°, 45°, 90° and 135°) are measured at 0.5MHz when the rocks are saturated by water. The P and S wave velocity measured from synthetic rocks apparently show the effect of fracture density. Measured results are compared with the theoretical prediction of the Chapman model and Hudson model. The comparison shows that measured velocities and theoretical results are in good quantitative agreement in all three fractured rocks, Chapman model fit the measurement results better.
