Abstract
The Democratization by Elections thesis suggests that repeated elections can causally lead to democratization. There are empirical works agreeing as well as disagreeing. Theoretically, authoritarian elections can both help and harm democracy. Electoral integrity may explain effect heterogeneity of repeated elections. This paper tests the Democratization by Elections thesis and attempts to incorporate Electoral Integrity.
