Procalcitonin to Guide Duration of Antibiotic Therapy in Intensive Care Patients: A Randomised Prospective Controlled Trial

In surgical intensive care patients, monitoring of procalcitonin (PCT) is a helpful tool for guiding antibiotic treatment when compared with a standard eight day regimen. This may contribute to an optimised antibiotic regimen with beneficial effects on microbial resistance and costs in intensive care medicine. Level of evidence: 1 + (RCT with a low risk of bias)
