Abstract
In this chapter, it is argued that it is time to bring the burgeoning work on pain together and develop a coherent clinically-informed research agenda addressing the problem of pain among children with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD). The chapter starts with an introductory section providing a short overview of the problem of pain among children with I/DD including many definitional and historical issues. Subsequent sections include a review of the epidemiology and impact of pain in children with I/DD, followed by a review of pain assessment and then pain management in children with I/DD. The chapter ends with a summary and conclusions relevant for future research and practice.
