Dimension esthétique des voix normales et dysphoniques : Approches perceptive et acoustique

Researchers as well as speech therapists are interested in acoustic cues, that allow evaluating voice quality and its degradation in order to obtain a diagnosis and to analyze the effects of a therapy. This way, experimental phonetics can be useful to the clinical practice. This study, which is a crossed approach on pathological speech connecting phonetic and logopedic sciences, deals with the esthetic quality of dysphonic voices. The aim of this work is to evaluate if women can perceive men’s altered voices as attractive. Results show that voices that are slightly rough (i.e. R1 on GRBAS scale) are evaluated as the most attractive among a set of dysphonic and non-dysphonic voices. An acoustic study has been carried out (1) to quantify the acoustic characteristics of each type of pathological voices and (2) to examine the acoustic correlates of voices that have been perceived as the most attractive.
