•Most individuals recover from COVID-19 resultant olfactory loss•At a population level, there is rapid recovery of olfaction in the first two months, followed by a slow, incomplete recovery•Younger age and milder severity of olfactory loss are associated with increased likelihood of recovery of olfaction•Individuals' self-reported subjective recovery exceeds objective recovery on psychometric testing
