Effect of prevalence of liver fibrosis stages in the performance of non-invasive fibrosis biomarkers in chronic liver diseases (CLDs): Results of an independent, international study

Background and aims. Liver biopsy is the gold standard for the assessment of fibrosis stage in CLDs. Non-invasive biomarkers of liver fibrosis have been proposed, including Fibrotest (FT), a patented test that showed good accuracy. However, large-scale, independent validation studies are still pending. Moreover, the effect of fibrosis stage distribution on performance of biomarkers has not been tested on a large-scale basis.
