•BRCA germline mutation is associated with sensitivity to PARP-inhibitors.•After DNA bisulfite conversion, digital droplet PCR and PCR followed by capillary electrophoresis are methods to explore methylation.•Methylation of BRCA1 and RAD51C promoters in pancreatic adenocarcinoma in Europe is probably an extremely rare event.
