Revascularization of carotid artery occlusion using stenting versus non stenting in endovascular management of tandem occlusion stroke

•Stenting internal carotid artery in tandem occlusion is a common treatment.•There is no significant difference in functional independence at 90 days between successful reperfusion in tandem occlusion when extracranial stenting is used and successful reperfusion in isolated intracranial occlusion.•Stroke patients with successful intracranial reperfusion had a higher probability of mortality within 90 days when concomitant stenting of extracranial carotid artery was performed compared those patients who did not receive stenting.
