•Low doses of lacosamide reduced spike frequency in status epilepticus and ST segment elevation.•Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of lacosamide were correlated with reduced status epilepticus.•Higher doses of lacosamide worsened spike frequency in status epilepticus and caused cardiac anomalies in ECG.
