Abstract
Women remain distinctly under-represented in cardiology and interventional cardiology (IC) in particular. Female physicians have reported harassment and discrimination based on gender. Respecting the principles of diversity, equality, and inclusivity is crucial in a modern workforce. In this nationwide survey, we aimed to investigate Canadian female residents' perceptions of cardiac catheterization training and examine barriers to women pursuing careers in IC. A high perception of sexism and concerns around family were identified as potential barriers to an IC career among women. It is crucial for these barriers to be addressed to decrease gender disparity and improve equality in IC.
