Food insecurity and geriatric functional limitations: Observational analysis from the AgeHeaPsyWel–HeaSeeB Survey

•Over one-third of community-dwelling older Ghanaians report at one least functional limitation.•About 44% and 9% reported moderate and severe food insecurities.•Food insecurity at older ages is associated with increased risk of functional limitations.•Older people who engaged in physical activity are 23% less likely to report food insecurity-associated functional limitations.•Mental distress partly explain the association between food insecurity and functional limitations.
