Mental disorder and first-time marriage formation among non-Western migrant women: A national register study

•Evidence of a mental health selection into marriage among migrant women.•Mental health service use was used as a proxy for mental disorder.•The mental health selection effect appears weaker when marriage is more universal.•Having a child can further reduce marriage formation among women with a disorder.•Higher income may buffer the negative impact of disorder on marriage formation.
