Self-reported anxiety level and related factors in senior high school students in China during the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019

•The nation-wide online survey covering 21,085 students from 233 key senior high schools in China•23.6% students reported with mild to severe anxiety during the outbreak of COVID-19•Anxiety in students negatively associated with their health literacy level and mothers’ education attainment•Specific interventions may be developed based on identified risk factors
