Abstract
For the design of future energy systems, simulation is a tool of utmost importance. Next to the simulation of the grid's behaviour itself, there is a need for the simulation to integrate various components in order to reach an optimized operation in terms of sustainability goals. The present paper therefore presents a flexible simulation architecture that provides a base structure for analyzing the current simulation state, performing forecasts and optimizations during the simulation run. Application cases for control strategies in dependence to sustainability indicators are presented and discussed in terms of the benefit of using the proposed simulation architecture. The performance of the architecture is verified in a district energy system scenario with an implemented low-carbon control strategy.
