In the beginning.

This is, hopefully, the first article of a series that will explore different techniques of documentation. Rather than discussing the multitude of textbook methods, I intend to stay with the practical ways that I have either used myself, or seen work firsthand. Aas usual, any response from you will be more than welcome--my immediate experience is by no means all-encompassing.
