老铁厂金矿位于秦岭泥盆系贵金属-多金属成矿带中段凤太矿田北部庞家河-老铁厂-马鞍桥铁金成矿带中段的磨房沟-黄柏塬矿带中部.通过对老铁厂金矿的地质特征、矿石结构、构造特征的研究,综合分析认为该矿床成因为中低温热液型金矿床,并提出了简单的找矿标志.
