Correlation Among Oxidative Stress Biomarkers and B lood Metabolites in Cross Bred Cows Affected With Foot and Mouth Disease

Accepted: 09/03/2015 Abstract The aim of the study was to measure the correlation among the different oxidative stress biomarkers, hematologica l and biochemical parameters of cross bred cow with foot and mouth di sease (FMD). The study was performed with two groups of animals: gro up 1 consisted of 10 crossbred cattle (Holstein Friesian X local) from f arm of Ranchi Veterinary College and group 2 consisted of 30 crossbred cattl e (Holstein Friesian X local) affected with FMD. It was observed that amon g the oxidative stress biomarkers, there was significant (P<0.05) negative correlation between malonyl dialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase ( SOD); between uric acid and ascorbic acid; however significant (P<0.05 ) positive correlation between MDA and ascorbic acid. Among the hematologi cal parameters, there was a significant (P<0.01) positive correlati on between hemoglobin, MCH and MCHC; between packed cell volume (PCV) and mean corpuscular volume (MCV); between mean corpuscular h emoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentratio n (MCHC); and a significant (P<0.01) negative correlation between R BC and MCV. Among the serum biochemical variables, there was positive correlation between urea and blood urea nitrogen (BUN); between total b iliru in and indirect bilirubin; abetween total bilirubin and glucose; be tw en direct bilirubin and calcium; between indirect bilirubin and glucose. A significant (P<0.05) negative correlation was observed between cholester ol and direct bilirubin; between urea and glucose; between BUN and glucose. Among the serum protein fractions and liver enzymes there was also significant (P<0.05) correlation among themselves. Thus it can be conclu ded that the Oxidative Stress Biomarkers had a significant (P<0.05) correl ation with most of the blood metabolites in Cross Bred Cows affected with FMD.
