Allergic disorders

The allergic conditions asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, and food allergy are among the most common chronic illnesses of childhood, and their prevalence is increasing despite advances in treatment. Our understanding of the complex biochemical, immunologic, and molecular mechanisms underlying these conditions has increased in recent years with many advancements made within the past decade toward targeted immunologic treatment for these diseases. As research advances continue, the diagnosis, management, and possibly prevention of these conditions will continue to evolve, and hopefully, the burden of pediatric allergic disease will begin to decrease.
