Network-aware Workload Placement for Cloud Computing Infrastructures 2011-present Designed Choreo, a network-aware placement system for distributing a user's workload across machines in a cloud computing infrastructure such that the total time to complete the workload is minimized. Tested Choreo on realistic workloads over hundreds of Amazon EC2 topologies. Privacy in VPNs 2010-present Designed attacks to determine what application an IPSec-VPN client is using, despite the en-cryption and tunneling present in the VPN. Developed solutions to thwart these types of attacks while explicitly examining the trade-off between privacy and overhead. Real-time Network Monitoring 2010-present Analysis of performance issues in live traffic from a variety of environments. Current focus is on TCP-level diagnosis, with plans to expand to the application and session layers. Analysis of data from hundreds of real-world 802.11 mesh deployments. Focus is on using the SNR as a predictor in bit-rate selection algorithms, the potential improvements of opportunistic routing, and the prevalence of hidden terminals. Helped design and implement VTrack, a system for using WiFi-localization data for route planning and hotspot detection in an energy-aware manner.
