Abstract
•A new chalcohalide K2Ba3Ge3S9Cl2 was obtained by a solid-state reaction.•K2Ba3Ge3S9Cl2 exhibits the largest band gap (3.69 eV) among all Ba-based chalcohalides.•K2Ba3Ge3S9Cl2 has a remarkable high LIDT of 339.3 MW/cm2, which is 28.8 times that of AgGaS2.•The experimental results are well verified by theoretical calculations.
