Effect of moisture content on soybean engineering properties: comparative study of varieties

Interest and research work on soybean has been reinvigorated due to its increasing demand as a cash crop and its being a cheap source of protein. Its production and processing can be improved and maximize with the help of agricultural equipment for handling, transporting, processing and storage of the seeds. The design-related engineering properties of soybean seeds for two varieties TGX 1448-2E and TGX 1835-10E as a function of moisture content in the range of 10.21%-18.37% (d.b) were determined to ascertain the varietal difference and the effect of moisture content. Standard methods were employed in the experimental study. The results of the design-related engineering properties of the soybean were found to be dependent on the moisture content and the soybean variety. The statistical test shows that the varietal difference and the moisture content significantly affect all the design related engineering properties.
