Abstract
Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a clinical condition that affects approximately half of women who have given birth. The lifetime probability of a woman undergoing POP surgery was reported to be between 11 and 19%. Apical prolapse affects 11% of women. Currently, conservative and surgical treatment modalities are available for POP. POP repair can be performed vaginally or abdominally for patients who do not benefit from conservative methods or who require surgical treatment. Although mesh or natural tissue could be used during these interventions, the FDA recommendations regarding mesh usage have led many surgeons to negative thoughts regarding these methods. Therefore, alternative treatment modalities using native tissue are gaining popularity. Recent technological advances increase the preferability of minimally invasive approaches for both the surgeon and the patient.
