Purpose: Intracavitary nasopharyngeal brachytherapy is limited in part by the normal tissue tolerance of nearby healthy organs such as the soft palate. For treatment plans requiring a brachytherapy boost post-external beam treatment, a novel shielding design for a nasopharynx applicator is proposed and explored for its ability to shield the soft palate while adhering to the constraints of standard treatment procedure.
