Abstract
culosis patients in our hospital. Methods: We retrospectively studied consecutive smearpositive pulmonary tuberculosis cases admitted to our hospital from February 2010 to January 2019. The changes in patient characteristics for ten years and the prognostic factors using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses are identified. Results: The mean age of 947 tuberculosis patients was 74 years, eight (1%) were relapsed patients, and 46 (5%) were from abroad. The median duration of hospitalization was 59 days, and deaths during hospitalization were 186 (20%). The number of tuberculosis patients decreased, but the number of foreign-born patients and mean age increased for ten years. Aging, male, low BMI, respiratory failure at admission, use of corticosteroid, low albumin, and high creatinine were independent prognostic factors in multivariate analysis. Conclusions: The proportion of elderly and foreign patients has been increasing, reflecting the aging population and globalization. Patients with poor prognostic factors should be treated with great care.
