摘要

•Photothermal therapy using AuNPs is a promising approach toward cancer treatment.•The off-target effect is mediated via non-specific interactions with proteins.•AuNPs form complex with human serum albumin and human hemoglobin proteins.•Folic acid-AuNPs complexes with target proteins are more stable than of AuFeNPs.•The charge functionalization can circumvent the off-target effect.
