Status of epileptic spasms: A study of 21 children

•We identified two well-defined subgroups of patients with status manifesting as continuous ES.•The first included patients with WS and the second other types of non-West severe epilepsy syndromes.•This particular electroclinical pattern met the criteria of status ES.•Etiologies were diverse and status of ES occurred in patients with a severe neurological status.•Treatment depends on the duration of status epilepticus and level of consciousness impairment.
