Workers’ compensation claim counts and rates by injury event/exposure among state-insured private employers in Ohio, 2007–2017

•A machine learning algorithm coded workers’ compensation claims by event/exposure.•Overexertion/Bodily Reaction and Falls/Slips/Trips were common injury events.•High-risk industries for different injury events/exposures were identified.•Evidence on intervention effectiveness was summarized and mapped to the results.•Stakeholders can use these data and machine learning methods to guide prevention.
