Abstract
At present, Freud's concept of bisexuality is often seen as the key to multiple forms of sexuation. As an alternative to this the sexual is brought to the fore here-as a pluripotent matrix that is particularly suitable for taking current sociocultural changes in the understanding of gender into account. The sexual, as Jean Laplanche defines it, is not accessible to direct research and is established without reference to gender difference. It is suitable for some reflections on phases of an imperative need to sleep in the treatment of a transsexual person.
