Probing and separating corrosion and erosion of pipeline steel using electrical resistance method in conjunction with electrochemical measurements

•A novelty erosion-corrosion sensor system is developed in this work.•The erosion component and the corrosion component are on-line probed and separated.•The measurement accuracy of EIS method induced by localized corrosion is discussed.•A methodology is proposed to reduce the measurement error of ER method.
