•The Mn-doped and Mn/Na-codoped CaZn2As2 systems are magnetic.•The Mn/Na-codoped CaZn2As2 systems prefer FM states.•The hole carriers are produced by the substitution of Na+ for Ca2+.•Mn atoms provide the magnetic moments with the p-d hybridization coupling.
