Phenotypic diversity and alternative methods for characterization and prediction of pulp yield in passion fruit (Passiflora spp.) germplasm

•The phenotypic diversity of 132 genotypes of Passiflora was evaluated from the physical and chemical characters of the fruits.•Digital images analysis allowed identify the color of the leaves, flowers fruits and pulp by hexadecimal system code.•There is wide variation in the peel color observed via digital images, which may be useful in future phytochemical studies.•The characterization pulp weight without seeds of passionfruit is a process more time consuming.•A new method by regression was proposed to quickly quantify the pulp weight without seeds and improved the characterization process.
