摘要
Liofilchem meropenem minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) strips.Whole genome sequencing utilized the Illumina NextSeq platform, and analysis of assembled genomes utilized publicly available databases to identify strain and resistance gene content.Summary of Results: Each isolate was extensively antibiotic-resistant, including imipenem and meropenem MICs of ≥8 μg/ml.Both patients from whom the isolates were collected were recently hospitalized, catheterized (urinary and intravenous), and prescribed multiple different antibiotics (excluding carbapenems).Genome sequence analysis revealed each of the three CRE isolates belong to multilocus sequence type ST307.These isolates harbor 16 antimicrobial resistance genes responsible for resistance to beta-lactam (blaSHV-28, blaTEM-1, blaCTX-M-15), carbapenem (blaNDM-5), aminoglycosides (aph(6)-Id, aph(3″)-Ib, aac(3)-Iie), sulfonamide (sul2), bleomycin (ble), quinolone (qnrB1), trimethoprim (dfrA14), fosfomycin (fosA), efflux pump (emrD, kdeA, ief ), and phenicol/quinolone (oqxB19, oqxA) antibiotics. Conclusions: Klebsiella pneumoniae ST307 with blaNDM-5 has been reported in humans, but to the authors' knowledge, this appears to be the first report of this strain/gene combination from a veterinary species, which suggests possible reverse zoonosis. In future studies investigating the complex epidemiology of CRE, the role of companion animals, such as dogs, should be evaluated.
