Abstract
•New aqueous two-phase systems formed by PVP, salt and H2O were characterized.•Na2SO4 is a better phase separation inductor than ZnSO4 and Na2C4H4O6.•The lycopene partition coefficient is greater than 1 for all evaluated systems.•The lycopene partition process is enthalpically directed.•The system PVP10k + Na2SO4 + H2O showed partition coefficient values of up to 23.6.
